Roberts Jackson secures £200,000 damages for client in benchmark Clinical Negligence case

Roberts Jackson has successfully secured £200,000.00 in damages for one of its clients for a brain injury stemming from a dangerous mixture of medication, administered when being treated for a suspected heart attack. The Trust has since removed the drug from use.

The Claimant was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital on 10/05/2009 suffering with chest pains. He was referred to Manchester Royal Infirmary on 13/05/2009 and he underwent coronary stenting.

On 19/05/2009 the Claimant developed heavy central chest pain and was taken by ambulance to the Accident & Emergency Department at Bolton Hospital. Over the course of the following hours the Claimant was administered with a mixture of anti-coagulant medication.

We alleged that the Claimant suffered an intra-cerebral haemorrhage, brain injury, bleeding from his gums and probable gastrointestinal bleeding, headaches, psychological injury including Acute Stress Disorder and Adjustment Disorder with mixed anxiety and mood disturbance, fatigue, sleep disturbance, panic attacks, cognitive impairment, post-stroke seizure and post stroke epilepsy with associated risks.

Medical reports were obtained from a Consultant Neurologist and a Consultant Neurophysiologist.

It is understood the Trust has now removed one of the offending drugs from use altogether.

Roberts Jackson paid for the Claimant to undergo Cognitive Behavioural treatment which has been of considerable benefit to him. The claim included significant losses, including past and future loss of earnings, pension and care and assistance.
