What is Asbestosis?

Asbestosis is a condition that affects the lungs, it is a chronic condition and in all cases it is long term. The condition is a result of exposure to asbestos which was used as a material for multiple uses including insulation and protecting against fires.

What Can Cause Asbestosis?

Exposure to the fibres can cause asbestosis and other respiratory conditions including mesothelioma, lung cancer and pleural thickening.

Asbestos was used by many workers during the 1960s and 1970s. Workplaces where exposure to the mineral was most common included:

  • Shipbuilding
  • Construction
  • Mining
  • Engineering & planning

While asbestos exposure was recognised as an occupational health hazard in the early 1900s, our solicitors are still seeing workers with recent diagnoses as it can take years for asbestos symptoms to develop.

Our legal team also retrieve asbestosis compensation for family members of workers who have been in contact with the fibres. Sadly, we find that the children or partners of exposed employees can also develop the respiratory condition after breathing in the substance on their loved one's work clothes.

Meanwhile, we also handle claims for people who have lived near asbestos factories and developed the health problem as a result of their close proximity.

Remember, even if you were exposed a long time ago, it can take years and even decades for asbestos symptoms to arise.

Can I Claim For Asbestosis?

Asbestosis compensation can still be pursued even if you were exposed many years ago.

The law states that you have three years to start the claims process from your date of knowledge of the condition, which usually starts from the moment you were diagnosed.

It is therefore imperative that you start your compensation claim promptly after you develop asbestos symptoms. Our solicitors will work hard to pinpoint the exact cause and any subsequent employers who contributed to your condition. Even if the business is no longer trading, we will find their insurance provider to make sure that you can still be fully recompensed for the condition.

Roberts Jackson specialises in work-related conditions and industrial diseases. With a high level of experience managing asbestos claims and a rich understanding of health and safety regulations, we will work hard to prove your condition is work related so that you can be awarded the compensation you deserve.

As we understand that being diagnosed with an asbestos related condition can be a difficult time for you and your family, we will handle your claim with a great deal of care and compassion. As we negotiate your settlement, we will also make sure that you are recompensed for any pain and suffering, lost income and medical care, while also being financially supported for the future.
